Moquegua
The city of Moquegua is located 1,146 Kms south of Lima and at 1,410 meters above sea level, it has an estamated population of 40,000 inhabitants.
Moquegua is well known for its many colonial houses, some of them still feature the unique "mojinete" roof, its sunny and temperate weather, its Pisco and its gastronomy, specially its desserts.
Historically Moquegua was the meeting place a various precolumbian culturas, such as Tiwanaku, Wari, Chiribaya and Inca. Some examples of this can be seen at the el Algarrobal Muesum, near Ilo
In these days the port of Ilo is one of the most important ones in the country, next to it we can find Punta Coles a sea lions colony.
Geographically Moquegua has plenty volcanoes, like Ubinas, Ticsani and Huaynaputina, also worth mentioning are the geysers and hot springs of Putina, near Calacoa.
