People of Taquile Island - Puno Perú

There are two principal islands located in the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca: Taquile Island -though not the largest- is certainly the most renowned and distinctive. A unique place, where the local inhabitants have developed a life style sustainable by present-day standards, yet not allowed the modern world to taint their ancestral traditions. To the north of Taquile is located Amantani, the larger of the two islands. Although it may not initially seem as pristine as Taquile, the impression is merely superficial.

The same can truthfully be said about most of Southern Peru, be it the Colca Canyon in Arequipa, the Sacred Valley of the Inkas in Cusco or the community of Infierno in Madre de Dios. The ancient cultures are everywhere still very much alive … and well. It is merely up to oneself to take the small leap and the great step required to realize the truth that not only is it possible to live along or among them, but that we have been doing so all along regardless.
