Arequipa
The city of Arequipa is the secong largest city in Peru, it has more than 1,000,000 inhabitants, it is located 1,009 Kms. south of Lima and at an elevation of 2,345 meters above sea level. It is also known as the White City for the white mortar stones used in many of its buildings.
Along the city and surrounding country side one can see many remnants of its colonial splendour, like the Cathedral, the Santa Catalina Convent and Molino de SabandÃa and the countless colonial houses, among others.
Arequipa is also abundant in natural beauties, like the Colca and Cotahuasi Canyons, the Valley of Volcanoes, the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve , the Misti and Chachani volcanoes and its many beaches, here also the practice of adventure sports is very commo. The MejÃa Wetlands ara also a paradise for birdwatchers.
